How I helped a client fix their SaaS business 🛠️🚀

So, I recently took on a consulting gig to generate some extra income (gotta fund my caffeine addiction somehow). My first client was a brick and mortar company that was bleeding money.

I identified a few issues in the business but the two I’m going to talk about are: tedious tasks eating up valuable time and a lackluster SEO approach that was holding them back.

Automating Tedious Tasks

First up, their tiny HR team was drowning in busywork. They were spending days manually checking timesheets for employees with multiple unexplained absences and then notifying their Head of HR about it. It's like watching someone hand-wash laundry.

Enter Zapier.

In about an hour, I set up a Zap that:

• Monitors Timesheets: Automatically scans for employees with multiple unexplained absences.

• Sends Notifications: Instantly shoots a Slack message to the necessary parties when it detects an issue.

Voilà! What used to take their HR team days to accomplish now happens instantly. This not only saved them thousands of dollars in labor costs but also freed up their team to focus on more important tasks—like actually supporting their employees.

The moral of the story? Automation isn't just for tech wizards. Sometimes, all it takes is a simple tool like Zapier to eliminate hours of redundant work.

Revamping Their SEO Strategy

Next on the agenda was their SEO—or lack thereof.

Their business had a golden opportunity to rank for "Near Me" searches (you know, those times when you're desperately Googling "coffee shops near me" because you can't survive another minute without caffeine).

I asked them, "So, what's your current SEO strategy?"

They replied, "We outsourced it to an agency and they said it's impossible to rank for 'near me' searches."

Impossible, you say? Challenge accepted.

I pulled out my phone and I showed them that not only is it possible to rank for "Near Me" searches, but it's also a massive missed opportunity if you don't try.

Here's the strategy we implemented:

1. Create Location-Specific Pages:

   • We developed pages targeting keywords for various cities they wanted to rank in.

   • For example: "Best SaaS Solutions in Austin" or "Top Software Services Near You in Denver."

2. Boost Domain Authority:

   • Focused on increasing their Domain Authority—a fancy term for how much Google trusts your site.

   • Achieved this by generating quality backlinks through guest posts, partnerships, and industry directories.

3. Optimize for Local SEO:

   • Claimed and updated their Google My Business listing.

   • Encouraged customer reviews to build credibility.

Within just a few weeks, they started climbing the search rankings. Traffic increased, leads started pouring in, and the founder looked at me like I was some sort of SEO wizard.

The Takeaway?

Don't accept "you can't do that" as an answer—especially from so-called experts. Sometimes, all it takes is a fresh perspective and a willingness to challenge the status quo.
